Biden Remembers the 500,000 American Lives Lost to Covid-19
Last night, President Biden addressed the over 500,000 Americans lives lost to Covid-19 with a speech and candlelit vigil. In his address, the president confirmed half a million is more Americans killed in one year “than in World war I, II, and the Vietnam War combined.” It’s also “more lives lost to this virus than any other nation on Earth.” The president further admitted he keeps a card in his pocket every day with the tally of those who have died from Covid-19. He drew on his own losses to remind the public to remember their loved ones by the way they lived their lives. The president closed his remarks by urging Americans to unite and to follow public health guidelines. Afterwards, President Biden joined the First Lady, Vice President Kamala Harris and the Second Gentleman for a moment of silence during a rendition of Amazing Grace. They were surrounded by 500 candles, each representing 1,000 lives. The National Cathedral bell was also rung 500 times.
