Texas, Other States Still Suffering From Severe Winter Weather
The unprecedented and deadly winter weather persists in the south and now also threatens the New England area. Texas still remains to be one of the worst hit states as millions of residents woke up to yet another day without power. Many houses have completely flooded due to collapsed roofs and burst pipes because they were not built to withstand such freezing temperatures. People are also doing whatever they can to stay warm, which means sleeping in tents in their own living rooms, using candles or burning old furniture, and hanging out in their running cars. The winter storm has now attributed to at least 35 deaths across eight states, many of which were traffic accidents. But there have been reports of homeless people dying from hypothermia, families dying in house fires while trying to stay warm, and several more reports of carbon monoxide poisoning. As the storm begins to move away from the south, it now threatens the East Coast. Nearly 115 million people, from the southern Plains to New England, are under winter alerts.
