SC House Passes Second Reading of Fetal Abortion Bill
The South Carolina House is one step closer to banning most abortions statewide. The Fetal Heartbeat Bill would restrict abortions between 6 and 8 weeks, with the exception of rape, incest, fetal anomaly, and risk to the mother’s life. In their second reading yesterday afternoon, the house voted to pass it 79 to 35, with several lawmakers not voting in protest. A final procedural vote is scheduled for today and will also likely pass. Since the Senate passed the same version of the bill in January, it’s expected to soon head to Governor McMaster’s desk who has already voiced his eagerness to sign it.
