Trump, Giuliani Facing Lawsuit for Allegedly Conspiring in Capitol Riot
Former President Trump and Rudy Giuliani are now facing a lawsuit over the Capitol riot. Democratic House Representative Bennie Thompson of Mississippi and and the NAACP filed the suit. They accuse Trump and Giuliani of conspiring with the two extremist groups, the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers, in order to block the presidential vote count. It further states that they all shared a common goal “of employing intimidation, harassment, and threats” to stop the vote count and that the riot was “a direct, intended, and foreseeable result” of their conspiracy. Their suit invoked the Civil Rights act of 1871, which allows lawsuits against government officials for claims that they conspired to violate civil rights. It was filed with the U.S. District Court in Washington. Trump Advisor Jason Miller responded by saying “President Trump did not plan, produce or organize the January 6th rally on the ellipse. President Trump did not incite or conspire to incite any violence at the Capitol on January 6th.” He added that former “Mayor Giuliani is not currently representing President Trump in any legal matters.”
