President Trump Issues Strong Statement Rebuking Sen. McConnell

And speaking of Trump, the former president has issued a searing statement against Senator Mitch McConnell. This attack comes days after President Trump was acquitted by the Senate over a single article of impeachment claiming he incited the riot on the Capitol. Despite voting in favor of acquittal, Senate Minority Leader McConnell said in a floor speech that the former president violated his duties and was “morally responsible” for the U.S. Capitol riots. He added that Trump should face criminal and civil litigation because he was “still liable for everything he did while in office.” In response, President Trump issued a 600-word statement blasting McConnell. It was his lengthiest press release since leaving office. In it, he referred to McConnell as a “a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack.” He also claimed McConnell “doesn’t have what it takes” and “if Republican senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again.” It appears the recent exchanges between the political leaders exposes what appears to be a rift within the Republican Party and amplifies uncertainty over the 2022 elections.
