Experts have been telling us for years the benefits of decluttering our spaces and they say sometimes the reason we don’t purge our stuff is because we don’t know what to do with it. Your answer may be right in front of you. Donating.
Goodwill is the most popular with 32 stores around the country. The non profit organization accepts new and gently used items to sell in their stores and on their online auction site, and have a partnership with dell to refurbish electronics.
The Salvation Army is another option. The items collected goes directly to those in need. They accept clothing, furniture, cars, household goods and appliances. Goodwill is a non-profit and salvation army is a charity.
For those prom dresses, evening gowns taking up space, you can donate those to programs like the Cinderella Project South Carolina. You help those wanting a dress to wear to the prom but couldn’t afford to buy if off the rack. Don’t forget about “Dress for Success” for your business clothing. They accept new or nearly new suits, shoes, handbags, cosmetics and jewelry.
If you’re looking to donate large pieces of furniture, such as couches, dining tables or beds, Habitat for Humanity restore is a great choice.
