Deadly Tornado Tears Through North Carolina Community

A tornado tore through North Carolina early this morning and killed several people. The storm struck around midnight in southeastern Brunswick County at the Ocean Ridge Plantation Community. At least three people were killed. Ten others also sustained injuries as a result, although the extent to which is currently unknown. At this time, first responders say they are working to find several missing people. Their efforts will increase throughout the day. Crews are attempting to rescue those still trapped inside their badly damaged homes. People have been asked to avoid the area as multiple local agencies continue these search efforts and streets are cleared of debris. Besides the residential destruction, the storm also downed trees and power-lines, leaving thousands without electricity. Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram said of the storm, “It’s something like I have never seen before. A lot of destruction. It’s going to be a long recovery process.” Weather advisories remained in effect through this morning for many of the surrounding areas.
