Biden Reopens Obamacare Enrollment
A special enrollment period for uninsured Americans to buy health insurance is open today. Open enrollment for benefits under the Affordable Care Act runs each year in November and December. But, President Biden signed an executive order last month that opens the exchange on Healthcare.gov for another three months. Although it only applies to the federal exchange often referred to as “Obamacare”, most states that run their own marketplaces are mirroring the extended sign-up period.
Fifteen million uninsured people qualify for benefits under Affordable Care Act policies. Nine million of those also qualify for financial assistance to help pay premiums. People who make up to about 51-thousand dollars and families of four earning up to about 105-thousand dollars are eligible for subsidies.
