CDC Says Double Masking Can Significantly Improve Protection Against Covid-19
The CDC is officially endorsing doubling-up your face masks. That’s after new data shows double masking significantly helps prevent the spread of coronavirus. This comes after months of calls for updated mask guidance and a study showing double masking is more than 92-percent effective in improving protection.
The CDC also updated recommendations on types of masks you should wear and how they should fit. Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC director says medical procedure masks like the commonly seen blue surgical masks typically don’t fit securely, allowing unfiltered air to escape. A fitted cloth mask can act as a cinch and secures the loose medical mask in place, keeping you more protected. In other health news, officials now say people who are fully vaccinated, no longer have to quarantine after an exposure to covid-19. The criteria requires at least two weeks to have passed since the final shot. But, the CDC says vaccine protection may wear off after three months. Meaning people who had their last shot three months ago or more should quarantine if they’re exposed.
