Rescue Crews Still Working as Bad Winter Weather Persists
Law enforcement agencies performed rescue missions all over the country after this week’s deadly winter weather. At least seven deaths were attributed to a storm earlier this week, including a murder-suicide sparked by an argument over shoveling snow. Fortunately, a homeless New Jersey woman was not among those killed. The 77-year-old had sheltered in her minivan during the storm and was trapped inside. She called police on Wednesday to tell them she was stuck, but due to a location logging error and miscommunication, firefighters were unable to rescue her for two days. Even more bad weather continued to cause issues yesterday in other states. In Iowa, dozens of people were involved in a 40-vehicle pile up. Caught in the accident were tractor trailers, other cars and trucks, and even state trooper vehicles. There were several injuries, but few of them were very serious. In Wisconsin, 62 ice fishermen were stranded on three separate ice floes after they broke off. They were all rescued by the Coast Guard without incident.
