Marjorie Taylor Greene Stripped of Committee Assignment Roles

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has been stripped of her committee assignment responsibilities. Greene stirred up controversy and outrage after comments she made online resurfaced. This includes her alleged support for executing prominent Democratic Congressional members, referring to the Parkland school shooting as a “false flag operation,” and promoting other dangerous conspiracy theories. House Democrats gave Republicans a chance to strip Greene of her leadership roles, but they refused with House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy calling the move a “partisan power grab.” Democrats then moved forward with a vote to remove her instead. Prior to, Greene spoke and attempted to distance herself from the conspiracies, making it clear she does not believe in them. She added “these were words of the past, and these things do not represent me. They do not represent my district, and they do not represent my values.” However, it was not enough. In a 230 to 199 vote, with 11 Republicans siding with the Democrats, Greene was removed from the House Education and Labor Committee and Budget Committee.
