Republicans Keep Liz Cheney, Marjorie Taylor Greene in House Roles
As one top House member holds onto her position, another is likely to be booted from hers very soon. Republican House members voted yesterday to keep Liz Cheney as House GOP Conference Chair. While it was a secret ballot, it’s believed the official count was 145 to 61. Cheney’s position was threatened after she was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump a few weeks ago, saying “there has never been a greater betrayal by a president.” Despite her vote, she will remain the third-highest-ranking Republican. And while Cheney gets to keep her role, it appears Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene may be stripped of hers. Greene has become the center of controversy lately after comments that she made came to light including the promotion of dangerous conspiracy theories and alleged support of violence against fellow congresspeople. After House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy refused to remove Greene from her committee assignments, Democrats decided to move forward with an official vote today. It’s likely Greene will be stripped of her titles as head of the House, Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee.
