President Biden Launches ‘Wartime Effort’ to Fight Covid-19 Pandemic
President Biden officially unveiled his Covid-19 wartime effort plan yesterday. During his first full day in office, the president signed another 10 executive orders aimed at combating the pandemic. Most importantly he ordered the Defense Production Act which will boost production, distribution, and administration of vaccines and other essential things such as masks. He’s also increased testing and enforced mask wearing where he can. President Biden further intends to sign an additional 2 orders targeting the economy today. They will expand food stamps and begin the process to establish a $15 minimum wage. This all comes as the U.S. surpasses 410,000 deaths and 24.5 million infections. An estimated half a million people are presently projected to die by next month. The president said his aggressive response is necessary since more Americans have now died during the pandemic than in all of World War II. He’s promised to be completely transparent moving forward as he undertakes his 100 million vaccines in 100 days plan. So far, around 16.5 million people have been vaccinated. Biden hopes to be back to somewhat normal by the fall.
