Lawmakers Outraged After National Guard Members Seen Resting in Parking Garage
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are outraged after discovering National Guard members were forced to sleep in a parking garage. Over 25,000 personnel were deployed to Washington, D.C., ahead of the inauguration to stave off potential threats of more violence. Photos initially went viral in the days leading up to the event showing Guardsmen sleeping on the marble floors of the Capitol building. After that, they were given cots. But now that the ceremony is over, it appears they’re no longer welcome in the building in between their 12-hour shifts. More photos went viral after the Guardsmen were moved to a nearby parking garage where they were crowded together and forced to rest on the ground. It’s believed they were also breathing in toxic car exhaust fumes. Most lawmakers agreed this was “outrageous, shameful, and incredibly disrespectful.” They demanded the Guardsmen be let back into the Capitol and want answers as to how this happened. In the meantime, arrangements have been made to send 15,000 of the Guardsmen home as soon as possible.
