Capitol Police Investigate Congressman Who Tried to Bring Gun onto House Floor

Capitol Police are investigating after a congressman tried to bring a concealed gun onto the House floor. Members of Congress can carry a firearm in the halls of Congress and on Capitol grounds as long as they have a license and carry their ammunition separately. But, they are by no means allowed to bring their weapons onto the floor. This is especially true following the deadly insurrection at the Capitol, in which afterwards metal detectors were installed. After some pushback from lawmakers, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi imposed heavy fines against those who do not comply. However, the new rule has not been officially passed yet. Republican Representative Andy Harris, of Maryland, was flagged by Capitol Police after attempting to go through a metal detector outside the chamber with his weapon. Harris was sent away by the officer which prompted Harris to ask fellow Representative Kohn Katko, of New York, to hold his weapon. Katko refused because he does not have a license. In the end, Harris did not get onto the floor with his weapon. Capitol Police are looking into the incident.
