Three National Guard Members Killed in Helicopter Crash
A military helicopter crash in upstate New York has resulted in the deaths of three National Guard members. Yesterday evening, a team aboard a UH-60 medical evacuation helicopter, based at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Rochester International Airport, was conducting a routine training mission. The helicopter went down in flames in a farmer’s field just outside of Rochester. The cause of the crash is unclear, but witnesses reported the aircraft was flying low and that the engine appeared to be sputtering. As of now, the victims have yet to be identified. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo lowered flags at all state buildings to half-staff for today, saying “I am devastated by the news tonight…I extend prayers and condolences from all New Yorkers to the family, loved ones, and fellow soldiers of these honorable heroes who we will never forget.” Roads near the crash site remained closed overnight as an investigation into the incident continues.
