No Major, Widespread Riots Witnessed Night of Inauguration

Despite numerous threats leading up to the inauguration, there was no widespread violence. This could be largely in part due to extra precautions taken by states to increase security measures ahead of the day after the insurrection on Capitol Hill. There were small protests across the country but most remained peaceful. The only reports of unrest have come from Portland where police were forced to declare an unlawful assembly last night after around 150 rioters vandalized an ice facility. They threw rocks and eggs, graffitied the walls, and more. Around 8 people have so far been arrested. Other cities who saw some tension were Seattle and Denver, where objects were also thrown and an American flag was burned. Most of those who participated claimed to be neither supporters of President Trump nor President Biden. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. As a result, security measures appear to be loosening nationwide, including Washington, D.C. Fencing is coming down from around the Capitol but federal agents remain vigilant.
