President Biden, Vice President Harris Officially Sworn into Office

Sworn In

This morning, President Joseph R. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were officially sworn into office. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts swore in Biden who is now the 46th, and oldest, president of the United States amid the unprecedented circumstances of a global pandemic. Harris was sworn in by Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor. She is now the first female, and the first female of color, to hold the position as well. For the first time in over 150 years, outgoing President Trump did not attend the ceremony. He left the White House for Florida early this morning. It was, however, attended by former Vice President Pence. The virtual event is being held outdoors at the west front of the Capitol with a historic level of security in attendance. Of the over 25,000 National Guard members currently deployed to Washington, D.C., so far 12 have been relieved from duty today. At least two were removed after exchanging ‘inappropriate’ texts. The rest were dismissed for exhibiting ‘questionable’ behavior.’ President Biden said he felt safe attending the outdoor ceremony today.
