SC Lawmakers Hope to Increase Covid-19 Vaccine Distribution Statewide

Vaccine

Vaccine rollout continues statewide, but some leaders say it’s not happening fast enough. Yesterday, Tidelands Health began administering their first 200 vaccine doses to those age 70 and older with hopes to vaccinate 3,000 people by the end of the week. Publix has also become among the first grocery store chains to start setting vaccination appointments for those who are currently eligible. Inoculations will begin as early as tomorrow. But recent data from the CDC shows South Carolina ranks among the lowest in doses per capita. State House Speaker Jay Lucas and Chairman Weston Newton say this is unacceptable and have formed a new committee to oversee DHEC’s vaccine efforts. Their hope is to “identify actions that should be taken” in order to ramp up administration as “quickly, efficiently and effectively as possible.”
