Bus Dangles Vertically From NYC Overpass After Crashing Through Barrier
At least nine people are injured after a bus drove through a barrier and off a New York City overpass. The New York Police Department reported the incident occurred around midnight in the Bronx area. After crashing through the barrier, the bus fell about 50 feet onto the road below it but was still dangling from the overpass from the back end. Among those injured was the bus driver. They are all currently recovering in nearby hospitals. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority assured they’re “conducting a full investigation and will implement lessons learned in order to prevent it from happening again.” It’s still unclear what caused the accident, whether it was due to operator error or a mechanical malfunction. No arrests have been made so far, either. Streets near the accident site are closed as authorities attempt to remove the dangling bus from the roadway and ensure no fuel or other hazardous materials were spilled.
