President Trump Impeached by House for Historic Second Time

In a historic moment yesterday afternoon, President Trump became the first and only president to ever be impeached twice. All 222 House Democrats and ten Republicans voted in favor of impeaching the president over his role in the riot at the U.S. Capitol last week. Among the most notable Republicans to do so was Representative Liz Cheney, daughter of the former vice president, who said “there has never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States.” It was the most sweeping bipartisan impeachment vote in all of American history. Hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signed the paper work, President Trump released a video statement. He once again called for calm amid threats of more possible violence in the days leading up to the inauguration. But he neglected to acknowledge his second impeachment. Now all eyes are on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He’s made it clear he’s still undecided on his vote, but it’s been rumored he believes impeachment will make it easier to rid the GOP of Trump’s influence.
