Hospitals, DHEC Swamped with Covid-19 Vaccination Appointment Requests

Hospitals and DHEC are finding themselves slightly overwhelmed with the influx of Covid-19 vaccination appointments. After it was announced yesterday that those 70 and older could begin making appointments, Tidelands Health received over 15,000 requests by noon. They’re hoping to schedule the first 2,000 appointments for next week. The DHEC Care Line also had a high volume of inquiries, reporting at one point they were swamped with 5,000 calls which doubled the number of operators they have. DHEC said while they are working to make the system most efficient, South Carolinians should expect to be put on hold.
