Community Mourns Death of HCPD Officer While on Duty

A community is in mourning after an officer with the Horry County Police Department was killed in the line of duty. 57-year-old LCpl Melton ‘Fox’ Gore died yesterday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 31. He was removing debris from the road when he was struck by a car. He served with HCPD for over 20 years in the Environmental Services Unit. It’s not clear yet if the driver will be charged since it appears to have been an accident. Gore is now the third officer to die in a traffic related accident while on duty in the last 12 days.
