Federal Agents Investigate Potential Threats of Further Violence in Washington, D.C.
Federal officials are now investigating even more threats of extremist violence following the Capitol breach. Already plots are circulating online detailing plans to hold a similar event in Washington, D.C. just ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. Presently, the city is under an emergency declaration and has deployed their full National Guard in anticipation of this. But the new threats are so concerning that Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has sent a letter to President Trump requesting additional and unprecedented funding for security as the threats mount. Secret Service is also investigating death threats against Vice President Mike Pence. It’s believed some of the domestic terrorists who participated in the Capitol riot last week had intentions of holding hostages and possibly killing members of Congress, including the Vice President. The term ‘hang Mike Pence’ was also trending online last week and shouted in the Capitol building’s halls. The Secret Service said they are taking this threat seriously and working to identify those making them.
