Boeing Settles Criminal Conspiracy Charges for $2.5 Billion

Boeing has agreed to pay $2.5 billion in a massive settlement for criminal conspiracy charges. A combined 346 people were killed in two plane crashes that occurred between October of 2019 and March of 2020. An investigation into the fatal incidents found unidentified Boeing employees committed fraudulent acts in order to make a profit as early as 2016 during the final stages of the planes approval. They did this by misleading FAA regulators about the craft’s safety and concealing information about changes made to an automated flight control system. Their actions were directly linked to the crashes. As a result, Boeing will be responsible for paying $2.5 billion for criminal conspiracy charges. Of that amount, $1.77 billion will go towards the airline customers affected by the grounding of the planes after the crashes. A total of $500 million will go towards the families of those who died. But it’s not over for Boeing who still faces more lawsuits by those family members.
