No Charges Brought Against Wisconsin Officer in Shooting of Jacob Blake

Protests broke out after it was announced no charges would be brought against the Wisconsin officer who shot Jacob Blake. 29-year-old Blake was shot in the back four times, and three additional times in his arm, by Officer Rusten Sheskey on August 23rd. The altercation left him alive but paralyzed from the waist down. The incident, caught on camera, incited protests across the city of Kenosha, as well as the nation. In anticipation for the charging decision, Kenosha declared a state of emergency and National Guard members were mobilized. Yesterday afternoon, the county’s district attorney revealed Sheskey would not face any legal action. It was decided that the officer acted in self defense since Blake was armed with a knife during the encounter and resisted arrest. Shortly after, protesters gathered at the Kenosha County Administration building to voice their upset, but there were no reports of extreme violence or vandalism. Blake’s family expected this verdict and has promised to take Jacob’s case to Congress now.
