U.K. Covid Variant Found in California as U.S. Death Toll Rises
The U.S. set another covid-19 daily death record yesterday. Some estimate another 80,000 people could die in the next three weeks as the consequences of holiday travel and gatherings set in. The CDC is projecting up to 424,000 U.S. covid-19 deaths overall by January 23rd. That’s according to a new forecast that combined all independently developed CDC projections. It’s about 5,000 more people than what the CDC projected earlier.
Meanwhile the new covid-19 variant has been found in southern California. The governor made the announcement during an interview with Doctor Anthony Fauci on Facebook yesterday. The variant was first identified in the U.K. and it’s been found in other countries too and then in Colorado on Tuesday. Variants are common in viruses, though this one appears to be more transmissible, but not more deadly. Still, Doctor Fauci made a point to say seeing it here in the states was expected.
