Louisiana Congressman-Elect Dies from Covid-19 Complications

Louisiana congressman-elect Luke Letlow has died after being diagnosed with covid-19. The 41-year-old announced his covid diagnosis on Facebook December 18th and wrote that he was home following CDC guidelines, quarantine protocols, and doctor recommendations. Days later, he posted that he was undergoing treatment in the hospital before his office released a statement December 23rd that he had been transferred to another medical facility. The LSU Health Shreveport chancellor said in a statement that at the time Letlow was in “stable condition in the intensive care unit” and was receiving the drug Remdesivir and steroids as part of his treatment. News of Letlow’s death was met with an immediate outpouring of support for the congressman-elect’s family. On twitter, Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards offered condolences to Letlow’s family. The republican party of Louisiana also praised Letlow as a “rising political star and a good friend”.
