Colorado Man Tests Positive for New Covid Variant

Yesterday the U.S. confirmed the first case of the new covid variant, which was first discovered in the U.K. and thought to be highly-contagious.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced that a man in his 20’s with no travel history is the first known case. The man is now in isolation outside of Denver. The Governor says health officials are working on contact tracing. A medical doctor and member of the Biden-Harris Transition Covid Advisory Board says the variant is “almost certainly in multiple states.” According to the World Health Organization, the new variant is believed to have originated in southeast England. Health authorities from around the world have said the variant does not appear to be more deadly than previously identified covid-19 strains but, it’s estimated the variant could be up to 70% more effective at spreading than others. Peter Horby, chair of the U.K.’s ‘New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group’ said “there is a hint is that the variant has a higher propensity to infect children,” but cautioned that more data is needed.
