Mitch McConnell Blocks Effort to Quickly Increase Stimulus Payments
Yesterday senate majority leader Mitch McConnell blocked an effort to boost forthcoming stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000, despite demands from President Trump. McConnell plans to combine several of Trump’s other priorities into so-called “Poison Pill” legislation. These other policy requests include a repeal of some online liability protections and the establishment of a commission to study voter fraud. But, as of right now, the $600 stimulus checks included in the bill Trump signed over the weekend are still scheduled. Some Americans received the money through direct deposits as early as last night. Those payments will continue into next week and paper checks will start going out in the mail today. Eligible Americans will receive a one-time payment of up to six-hundred dollars per person, or 12-hundred for married couples. On top of that, some families with children will get up to six-hundred dollars for each qualifying child.
