Boeing 737 Takes to the Skies Today
For the first time in nearly two years, Boeing’s 737 max is carrying u-s passengers today. American Airlines will use the jet on a round-trip route between Miami and New York. The 737 max has been grounded since March of last year, following two crashes that killed a total of 346 people. The flights come after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approved changes Boeing made to the jet last month. Two other U.S. airlines also own the 737 max, including United Airlines and Southwest. Neither of which have added the plane to their schedule yet.
A Brazilian airline became the first carrier earlier this month to resume flights with the jet, followed by Aeromexico last week. Several people who lost loved ones in the crashes have said that they don’t believe the max should return to the skies. Seven family members of those lost on Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 sent a letter to the Department of Transportation secretary and the FAA administrator last week requesting that they rescind the airworthiness directive that ungrounded the 737 max.
