Fraternity Members From NC Colleges Busted in Major Drug Trafficking Ring

A major drug trafficking ring that involved North Carolina college fraternities has been busted by federal agents. Chapters from Phi Gamma Delta, Kappa Sigma, and Beta Theta Pi at the University of North Carolina, Appalachian State, and Duke University are alleged to have been part of the plot. They’re accused of funneling a half-ton of marijuana, several hundred kilos of cocaine and significant quantities of other drugs into these schools between the years of 2017 through the spring of this year. Their scheme is believed to have amounted to a worth of over $1.5 million. Since July, 21 people have so far been arrested in connection, with suspect’s ages ranging from 21 to 35. They face various drug trafficking, distribution and conspiracy charges. It’s unclear how many people involved were or are students of these schools. An email from UNC-Chapel Hill’s chancellor said no suspects are currently enrolled but that they would keep an eye out in attempt to combat the illegal activity.
