U.S. Sets New Records for Daily Covid-19 Cases, Hospitalizations, Deaths

Yesterday once again marked the darkest day of the pandemic in the U.S. The nation reported record-breaking numbers in new single-day cases, hospitalizations and deaths. More than 247,000 infections were recorded, over 113,000 Americans are now hospitalized and a devastating 3,600 deaths were added to the national toll. After the travel turnout and surge in cases witnessed after Thanksgiving, there are serious concerns Christmas celebrations will contribute to even worse conditions. To make matters worse, nurses from three California hospitals have voiced intentions to strike between Christmas and New Years Eve over staffing safety concerns. The golden state is already under extreme pressure and a strike could have severe consequences. By providing a ten day notice, healthcare workers hope an adequate deal can be reached. They’re not the first union to strike either as hospital workers have suffered with staffing shortages, inadequate PPE and insufficient testing all year long.
