Teenager Seriously Injured After Rock Thrown Off Overpass
A teenager was seriously injured after a small boulder was thrown off an overpass in Darlington County. 15-year-old Austin Schwartz was sitting in the front passenger seat of his family’s car when the rock went through the windshield and hit him in the head, knocking him unconscious. He suffered a minor brain bleed, a swollen eye, multiple facial fractures, and will require surgery for broken bones. He’s expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow. Two other vehicles also sustained damage from flying projectiles. It’s believed two juveniles were throwing rocks and fruit off the East McIver Road overpass in Florence as cars traveled beneath it, but so far no suspects have been apprehended.
