Biden Taps Buttigieg for Secretary of Transportation
President-elect Joe Biden has tapped former running opponent Pete Buttigieg for Transportation Secretary. The 38-year-old served as mayor in South Bend, Indiana from 2012 to 2020. He gained national attention during the presidential primaries after becoming the first openly gay major-party candidate to win delegates. If the nomination goes through, Buttigieg will also make history as the first openly gay person to head the Transportation Department where he’ll be tasked with revitalizing the nation’s infrastructure. While Buttigieg has a history of securing investments and launching initiatives in effort to better his city’s roads, some are questioning the validity of the pick. A 2019 article recently surfaced accusing the former mayor of being responsible for one of the ”worst pothole situations in the state” of Indiana. It’s reported thousands of dollars in vehicle damages occurred daily under his watch at one point. Last year, Domino’s Pizza stepped in and offered a $5,000 grant to fill in the holes.
