Attorney General William Barr Resigns After Weeks of Speculation
Following weeks of speculation, William Barr will resign as Attorney General of the Justice Department. Tensions between Barr and President Trump ignited after Barr publicly stated his department had, so far, not seen any evidence proving there was widespread voter fraud in this year’s general election. Shortly after, Barr met with the president in what sources called a “contentious” meeting. President Trump also reportedly told officials late last week he was considering terminating Barr. Despite this, Barr said he’s resigning on his own volition. On Twitter last night, President Trump referred to their meeting over the departure as “a good one” and said Barr had done an ‘outstanding job’. Barr offered similar praises of the president. Barr is expected to officially step down sometime next week with deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen stepping up to become Acting Attorney General. Biden and his incoming administration still have not announced their selection for the role when they come into power January 20th.
