SC Lawmakers Propose Bills to Help Fight State’s Opioid Epidemic
South Carolina’s opioid crisis has reportedly worsened during 2020. Data collected by the state Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services concluded there was a 49% increase in over doses this year compared to last. Statistics on overdose deaths are also assumed to have risen. In an effort to address the problem, state lawmakers proposed a series of new bills that encompass issues of increased education, law enforcement changes, and more access to life-saving overdose drugs. The hope is to have the bills passed in a bipartisan vote sometime during the next legislative session which begins on January 12th.
