Dozens of South Carolina Inmates Now Facing Federal Indictments

40 South Carolina prison inmates are now facing federal indictments. In what’s being called “the largest federal racketeering case” in our state’s history, 40 people are facing a combined 147-counts for murder, kidnapping, firearms distribution, drug trafficking and more. An unrelated investigation that began in 2017 uncovered a gang-related plot in which prisoners were using contraband cell phones to order the crimes from inside the state’s corrections facilities. Defendants range in ages from 21 to 62.
