Contentious Election Lawsuit From Texas Has Government Officials Divided
The Texas election lawsuit brought before the Supreme Court has drawn extremely mixed reactions from government officials. The suit alleges millions of votes from Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were made unconstitutionally. In an unprecedented request for legal intervention, they’re hoping to have millions of them invalidated. In response, representatives from the four battleground states have issued searing remarks against the filing. Pennsylvania’s attorney general referred to it as “an abuse of the judicial process.” 21 additional states and Washington, D.C., have also submitted an amicus brief urging the high court to reject the motion. This was met with an opposing amicus brief in support of the motion which was signed by over a 100 house Republicans. This includes South Carolina Representatives Tom Rice and four others. They argue irregularities witnessed in the election “cast doubt upon its outcome” and insist the court carefully and thoroughly review the case. While their decision is still up in the air, some law experts believe the Texas suit will not be successful due to lack of evidence.
