Major Lawsuit Filed Against Facebook Looks to Breakup Company’s Assets
An unprecedented lawsuit brought against Facebook is demanding the digital platform be broken up. More than 40 attorneys from dozens of states and the federal government have teamed up to sue Facebook. They allege the social media giant has abused its monopoly power in the digital marketplace. They’re seeking a permanent injunction with the main goal of forcing the company to divert its assets, effectively dismantling the big tech’s power as we know it. Those who proposed the suit believe it’s important since social networking is now the corner stone to millions of American lives. Facebook over the last decade has also acquired Instagram and what’s app as part of major, multi-billion dollar deals. Their audience has also grown to more than 3 billion users across its apps. The clear dominance of not just Facebook, but Google, Apple and more has been a point of contention this year. The hope is to break up Facebook in effort to allow for more companies to compete and thrive in the digital market place.
