Dozens Face Eviction After Myrtle Beach Motel Suddenly Announces Closure
The sudden closure of a Myrtle Beach motel has dozens of people now facing evictions. Tenants were given an 8-day notice to move out of the Aquarius Motel off Mr. Joe White Avenue near Ocean Boulevard. While the CDC extended an eviction moratorium through the end of this year due to the pandemic, it does not include motels. Many long-term residents are upset, especially with Christmas just weeks away. It is legal under South Carolina law for those who lease on a week-to-week basis to be given notice of at least 7 days.
