Several Injured After West Virginia Chemical Plant Explodes, Catches Fire

An explosion and fire occurred at a chemical plant in West Virginia last night. Just after 10 p.m., four people were injured, including two plant workers. We don’t know the extent of those injuries at this point. As a precaution, residents of at least four surrounding communities within a two-mile radius of the blast were told to shelter-in-place following the incident. The fire has since been brought under control. It’s currently believed no chemicals from the plant fire got into a nearby river and after emergency responders determined the situation was all-clear, the shelter-in-place was lifted around 3 a.m. However, schools in the area will be closed for the day. An investigation into the cause is now underway. It’s currently unclear what led to the initial explosion.
