Authorities Raid Home of Former Covid Data Official in Florida

A search warrant was executed yesterday at the home of a former Florida state official. Rebekah Jones was fired by the Department of Health in May after helping build the state’s online Covid data tracking dashboard. Jones publicly alleged she was asked to cover up the actual scale of the outbreak and was fired as a result of her refusal. However, the department claims Jones was removed for exhibiting “repeated insubordination.” Jones filed a whistleblower complaint in July and has asked to be reinstated with back pay. Her home was then raided yesterday believing she illegally accessed a government system to send a message urging employees to speak up about Covid-19. Jones denies this but had several devices confiscated. She said she won’t let this “scare her into silence” and posted video footage of the raid online. She’s accused the officers of pointing guns at her and her young children. The state Department of Law Enforcement said at no time were guns pointed and that they acted accordingly.
