Georgetown County School District Votes Against Using Rapid Covid Testing Kits

DHEC is currently distributing rapid Covid testing kits to school districts statewide, however Georgetown County will not be one of them. The board argued it would only create more problems. For one, the rapid test is most accurate when patients have symptoms and the majority of young students don’t develop any. It’s also a logistics issue since nurses would have to spend around 45 minutes putting on PPE just to administer the tests. Clean up of the room afterwards would also be an involved process. Fortunately, the district still has the ability to get kits in the future if they decide to participate.
