Family Files Lawsuit Against HCS After Student Exposed to Toxic Mold

A family has sued the Horry County School district after a student was exposed to toxic mold.  The legal action filed yesterday states the unnamed St. James Elementary School student, known only as John Doe, suffered from numerous serious symptoms related to mold exposure between 2017 and 2019. They also repeatedly sought medical treatment and when the family requested the student be moved to another school, they were forced to pay a hefty fine. The plaintiff alleges the school knew about the mold and other water damage for years and didn’t hire a qualified company to remove the dangerous toxins.
