Sudden Storms in Texas Cause Severe Damage to Dozens of Structures

Sudden storms that tore through northern Texas last night have caused significant damage. Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings were put into effect as winds reached speeds of up to 60 mph. Cities such as Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington were impacted. While the storms themselves didn’t last long, they left a wake of destruction in their paths. Fire departments responded to dozens of damaged and collapsed buildings throughout the region. This included a fast food restaurant, where a drive through awning fell onto a truck and trapped the occupants inside. Fortunately no one was injured there, however three others have been hospitalized for minor injuries sustained during the storms. About 75 families from three apartment complexes have been displaced and across the state, more than 26,000 customers lost power. The Emergency Operation Center has since been activated. The storms moved out of the area late last night and headed southeast.
