Trump Administration Authorizes Transition for President-Elect Biden
After almost three weeks, the Trump Administration has officially authorized transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden. Biden has been the projected winner of the election since November 7th, however President Trump refused to immediately concede or sign the crucial and legally mandated transition of power papers. Instead, he filed numerous lawsuits against several states alleging voter fraud which so far have been largely unsuccessful. The Trump Administration faced increasing criticism over these last few weeks from both sides of the aisle who argued Biden’s lack of access to official government funds, information and more posed a national security threat. GSA Administrator Emily Murphy in particular has faced lots of backlash, and even death threats, as she is in charge of signing the paperwork that would allow for the transfer. She had initially been holding off until election results were certified. However, as more states confirm their results this week, it appears the Trump Administration has begun to admit their defeat and allowed for the transfer to begin. President Trump has vowed he’ll continue his legal fights and promised he would never publicly concede.
