New Model Projects Current Number of U.S. Covid-19 Cases Could Double by January
A new model projects the number of Covid-19 cases in the U.S. could double in the next two months. Presently, the number of infections stands at well over 12.4 million with almost 258,000 deaths. In the last week, an average of over 173,000 new cases have been observed daily. 85,800 people are also currently hospitalized, a number that has broken the record for the 14th consecutive day. At this rate, researchers predict we’ll reach 20 million infections by January 20th. With an average of around 1,000 deaths a day, they also forecast another 140,000 people could die by then. In attempt to stop further spread, state and local leaders are cracking down, especially with the holidays upon us. Pennsylvania is expected to temporarily ban alcohol sales at bars and restaurants on Thanksgiving eve which is historically the biggest day for drinking. In New York City, a Brooklyn synagogue that hosted a wedding attended by thousands and was in violation of several CDC guidelines will now be fined $15,000.
