Millions of Americans Travel This Weekend Despite Skyrocketing Covid-19 Surge
Despite record breaking numbers of Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations, millions of Americans traveled by air this weekend. Saturday alone saw over 195,000 new cases. The nationwide total now come to over 12.3 million with over 157,000 deaths. November isn’t even over, but has already seen more new infections this month than any other since the pandemic began with over 3 million. That accounts for nearly a quarter of all cases reported. While testing has increased, it does not make up for the rate of daily new cases which increased 25% last week compared to the previous week. Despite these numbers and multiple warnings by health experts, Americans traveled by air more this weekend than they have since March. Friday and Saturday saw over 2 million travelers. Airlines are continuing to brace themselves for the influx of customers this Thanksgiving week as a new poll revealed around 1 in 3 parents believe holiday gatherings are worth the risk. The CDC said they’re not worried about people catching the virus during flights. It’s the family gatherings that are dangerous.
