Horry County to File Lawsuit Myrtle Beach Leaders Over Property Sale

Horry County has filed a pending lawsuit against Myrtle Beach city leaders over the potential sale of a campground. The Lakewood Camping Resort and Pirateland Family Camping Resort take up nearly 145 acres and have reportedly generated millions of dollars each year for the Myrtle Beach International Airport. Many object to the sale because of the negative revenue impact it would have on airport operations. It’s also alleged that the sale does not meet the city’s legal obligations to the county. Earlier this month, the city council approved an initial vote to sell for around $60 million. The council’s second and final vote on the matter is still set for next month.
